Bakery on Main Instant Oatmeal

At one of the gluten free conventions I found a sample of Bakery on Mains' instant oatmeal.  It was the strawberry shortcake flavor.

Bakery on Main is a GF bakery in Connecticut that produces oatmeal, bars and granola.


The oatmeal was simple to make - add hot water and let it simmer.  It had a strong but nice aroma of strawberries.  It tasted delicious.  The texture was soft and the oatmeal was a finer grain - not whole flat oats.


You can see it contains straight forward ingredients.

Pack one in you bag, carry it when you travel.  It make a nice, tasty, easy breakfast or snack.

Mountain Mike's Pizza

Pizza. One of the things we GF folk miss is pizza, grabbing a slice, ordering a pie, delivery pizza at home. It has been two years since the GF Food Expo in San Diego where I met the owner of the two local  Mountain Mike's Pizza.   He told me a story about his daughter, who has to be GF, and how his restaurants offer safe GF Pizza.  I kept thinking I would stop in - its been two years.  Sam Golding owns the shop in Clairemont Mesa and I believe another in San Carlos. San Diego Safari Park

I must say that the San Diego Zoo  Safari Park  has some work to do.  Disney and Legoland do a great job with a GF list that you can pick up at guest services. We went to the Safari Park the other day.  I stopped at Guest Services and they said to check in the park at the Ranger Station.  At the Ranger Station they called another person on the phone and then informed me that they did not have a list - I should ask at each place. So I'm supposed to go into every place and ask?  If I'm hungry, and wait in line, and then find out they do not offer anything I'm supposed to just go to the next place and wait in line again? Now, we brought food (always prepared); but, I wanted to check out the GF options for potential visits in the future and for "research." I stopped by Mombasa Island Cooker .  The only option was baked chicken strips . Sake

I like sushi.  Nothing goes better with sushi than beer and sake.  Well, now that some of my favorite beers are off the table what do I have left?  Sake?  Maybe. So sake is rice wine so should be safe, but what happens in the brewing process.  It is known as the "Drink of the Gods."  They first polish the rice.  This picture shows the unpolished rice above and the polished rice below. Sake is made with rice, water, sugar and Koji.  Different sakes are produced with different purtiy.  There are sakes that are made with added alcohol : Hojonzo, Ginjo-Sake and Dai Ginjo Sake I would avoid these. The sake that is made with rice without added alcohol are Junmai-Sake, Junmai-Ginjo and Junmai-Dai-Ginjo. If you have ever had sake in the US you probably have had Gekkeikan .  I like Gekkeikan Silver.  I contacted the company and they responded that all of their sake is Gluten Free and the produce only sake in their factory and there is no risk of cross contamination.
