Where the hell am I going to eat??

This list hopefully will get quite big but so far I have found two that I trust.

First is George's California Modern in La Jolla, California.  See my previous BGF (before Gluten Free) blog on food at hisherfoodie.blogspot.com. The food here is by far my favorite restaurant in San Diego and has the best food.  For most though it will be a bit pricey.

The take all food allergies into account.  They do not have a GF menu but the waiters all know what is gluten free and what is not and what can be altered to be GF.

This has been my big issue.  If the waiter doesn't even know what celiac disease is, or what items contain gluten I am just about out the door.  At George's they know their stuff.

I had the Chino Corn Soup (sans crouton to make mine GF).  This is a rich creamy soup with fresh corn from Chino Farms in Rancho Santa Fe.  The bone in Halibut is prepared perfectly with a nice sauce.  Flourless chocolate cake for dessert.  Most important no upset stomach the next day so no cross contamination.  Definitely plan a meal here.

My second find was Urban Solace.  This quaint restaurant is in North Park in San Diego.  They have a GF menu which is big.  It has a number of entrees and apps.  I had the tomato fennel soup - delicious.  We split a blackened shrimp with corn grits (GF of course).  For dinner I had the chicken, roasted perfectly with potatoes on the side.

They just opened a new restaurant in Encinitas that I was told does not have a GF menu but approximately 80% of the menu is GF.  That is the next one on the list so check back for more.

Mountain Mike's Pizza

Pizza. One of the things we GF folk miss is pizza, grabbing a slice, ordering a pie, delivery pizza at home. It has been two years since the GF Food Expo in San Diego where I met the owner of the two local  Mountain Mike's Pizza.   He told me a story about his daughter, who has to be GF, and how his restaurants offer safe GF Pizza.  I kept thinking I would stop in - its been two years.  Sam Golding owns the shop in Clairemont Mesa and I believe another in San Carlos. Ghostfish Gluten Free Beer

I noticed that I have been slacking on the blog updates.  I do have some recipes to add and a bunch of new GF products that I have found.  But, one of the best new additions I have found was another dedicated GF Brewery out of the incredible Pacific Northwest.  Home to beautiful mountains, rivers, steelhead, salmon and GF Beer.  My other favorite GF beer is just south of these guys in Portland, Oregon - Groundbreaker Brewing  (The brew pub is also a block away from my favorite GF Bakery - New Cascadia Traditional. I found out about  Ghostfish Brewing  after hearing about all of the medals they won at the 2015 Beer events.  They are another dedicated GF Brewer located in Seattle, Washington.  Three guys making great GF beer. I was able to get my hands on three of their beers.  They did not last very long because they were all very good. San Diego Safari Park

I must say that the San Diego Zoo  Safari Park  has some work to do.  Disney and Legoland do a great job with a GF list that you can pick up at guest services. We went to the Safari Park the other day.  I stopped at Guest Services and they said to check in the park at the Ranger Station.  At the Ranger Station they called another person on the phone and then informed me that they did not have a list - I should ask at each place. So I'm supposed to go into every place and ask?  If I'm hungry, and wait in line, and then find out they do not offer anything I'm supposed to just go to the next place and wait in line again? Now, we brought food (always prepared); but, I wanted to check out the GF options for potential visits in the future and for "research." I stopped by Mombasa Island Cooker .  The only option was baked chicken strips .
