Wild Alaskan Company

Image
I like fish but I avoid farm raised fish. During Covid I found the Wild Alaskan Company. They are a small family run business that offers subscriptions for wild Alaskan caught fish delivered right to your door. Each is an individual size portion, frozen and vacuum sealed. We have had coho salmon, sockeye salmon, halibut, rockfish, black cod, and sablefish. Each one is so fresh and so delicious. I sent a box to my mom and she said it was the best fish she had ever eaten. Throughout the year there are seasonal specials. We have ordered shrimp, scallops, and crab. They now offer pre-marinaded fish too. You can get Sockeye Salmon with a Teriyaki GF glaze, miso marinade sablefish, and halibut with herb butter and lemon. I have not yet tried these but I'm thinking of adding them to my next box. You get an email when the box is shipped. They use weather technology to determine how much dry ice to pack in the compostable insulated box. Even in the heat of the summer the dry ice is always ...

Cappello's Pizza

Image
What are your thoughts about GF wheat starch? I was reluctant for a long time. I was afraid of a reaction, i'm super sensitive and get horribly sick when I get glutened. My first foray was with Caputo's GF pizza flour made with wheat starch and I have been fine. For a few years now we have bought Cappello's pizza, the almond crust version and it was always good when you needed a quick pizza to eat. More recently I saw their Classic Crispy Crust made with GF Wheat starch and certified GF.  After passing it by a number of times at the store I decided to pick one up and try it. I took one for the team. It was good. The crust was crispy, definitely GF, but light and enjoyable. The sauce, cheese and pepperoni were tasty. Would I buy it again? Sure. Have you tried it? What are your rules with GF Wheat starch?

Nectarine Grove

Image
If you are visiting San Diego you must stop at one of the Nectarine Grove Locations. The OG is in Leucadia and the newer Bakery is in Del Mar. Both are 100% Gluten Free Most of the breads, cupcakes and other pasteries are available at both but the menus are slightly different. At Leucadia you will find GF Holiday beer on tap. Yes GF beer on tap. They have pizza, salads, bowls, burritos, sandwiches and more. At Del Mar there are breakfast tacos, breakfast bowls, salads, soup of the day and sandwiches. Both offer a full coffee bar with matcha lattes and chai and everything in between. Enjoy!

Himitsu - La Jolla

Image
Do you like sushi? I do. If you are like me than you know how hard it can be to go out for sushi. Just fish and rice. Right? What about the soy sauce. Do they have tamari or do I have to bring my own? What about all of the tempura and did it contaminate the rice and the cutting boards? We were lucky to find Himitsu in La Jolla, California. Not only is it some of the freshest fish with incredible seasonal specials but it is 99.9% GF. The tables only have tamari. The fryer is GF. Even if you want karage, its GF. The only thing that has gluten is their sando sandwich on the lunch menu. The bread contains gluten. Even their desserts are GF. If you are in the area be sure to stop in for a meal. Kampi!

GF Cookbooks

Image
I like to cook. It can drive my wife crazy that I can look in the fridge and the cabinet and just whip something together.  But, at times I want a recipe. Usually, it's to try something new and then I usually tweak it. When it comes to baking, however, I rely on the exact measurements. Over the years I have a few choice GF cookbooks that I find myself always going back to. Peter Bronski has a number of GF cookbooks (check out my previous post about his Pizza Cookbook ) but one of the first GF cookbooks I bought was the  Artisinal Gluten-Free Cookbook  (there is even a newer  second edition . My second most popular GF cookbook is by Laura Russell.  The Gluten Free Asian Kitchen  has tons of soups, dishes and sauces that are delicious. Have you ever made GF potstickers? We set up an assembly line and its fun and so tasty once they are cooked up. She also has another cookbook on vegetables, specifically Brassicas by the same name -  Brassicas: Cooki...

New Cascadia Traditional GF Bakery

Image
When I was fishing for steelhead on a regular basis I took a few trips each year to Portland, Oregon. One of the places I always stopped at was  New Cascadia Traditional GF Bakery The place is something special. You can tell a lot by the bread. The french bagquette is perfect. It does not taste GF, and you can eat it without having to toast it, like so many other GF bread products. Crispy and crunchy crust with a soft flaky inside. The pizza is awesome and you can get bagels, cupcakes, cookies and sandwiches. If you are lucky to live nearby you can visit the Bakery or some of the local Whole Foods or Farmers Markets. But, you can also have it delivered right to your door. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

The  Gluten Dude  is a guy who was diagnosed with celiac disease like many of us. He created a blog I followed for a while and then he created his own  GF App I was an initial beta user and since its inception he has constantly upgraded the app and the GD App is my go-to app for restaurants and when traveling. When it comes to restaurants they vet each entry. There is a really cool trip planner. You can find a ton of coupons. And a daily feed. You can use this  affiliate code  for a discount on your subscription. Hope you find the app helpful.

Lets start with some of my favorite beverages. Check out their  Chocolate Protein Shake And the  Warrior Meal Shake And the  Shroom Coffee They have lots of salads and bowls but my favorite is the Soba Noodle Salad If you want something sweet they have options. Gluten Free Cheez-It

Image
My daughter was waiting for a year after she first heard about Gluten Free Cheez-It  coming to market. I remember Cheez-Its from my pre-celiac days, so I had something to compare them to. For many, this may be your first time eating Cheez-It's Once we got a few boxes I was able to try them. And... Pretty darn good. Same crunch from what I remember. I believe the OG was more cheezy? And like many GF items there was a bit of an aftertaste. But, would I eat them again? Yes, and I have. What are the ingredients? What did the reviews say? Most of the 1 and 2 star reviews were because the item was out of stock. Have you tried them yet? What did you think?

Love Me Gluten Free

Image
If you are like me, food shopping is a blessing and a curse. I love finding new GF products. But, at times I get angry walking through a store seeing all of the things I can not eat any longer. My daughter found  Love Me Gluten Free  a GF subscription gift box full of GF goodies. We have received it for the past few months and every month the box is a happy surprise. Not only do you get around ten GF food items but a handful of coupons (since we all know GF food is not cheap) and a GF goodie. These are some of the items that came this month: Check them out and see what you think!
