The Un-Gluten Guy (My Gluten Free Recipes & GF Adventures)

I was on a fishing trip in Oregon and stopped in at the local Whole Foods.  While I was walking through the store I saw a few bags of gluten free crackers.  They were made locally in Corvalis, Oregon at a dedicated Gluten Free Facility.  I used to have a soft spot for Cheez-its so when I saw the cheddar flavored GF crackers I had to pick up a bag. That night I was getting my gear together and opened a beer ( Harvester  of course) and the next thing I know the bag was empty.  I was licking my lips and craving more but that was all I had, I only bought one bag.  I told myself I would order some when I got home. I searched online and found  The Oregon Cracker Company  and learned a bit about Jeff and Eric who are GF brothers-in-law.  They founded the company, and everything is made in a 100% GF Facility. This was find #2 when we were visiting family in Florida and this was a big hit, even with family members that do not have to eat GF.  My mother found it at a small natural food store near her house but you can order direct from the company. Absolutely Gluten Free  is a company out of Spring Valley, New York that produces, according to their website, gluten free and additive free snacks and aims to change the perception of gluten free food.  I think they met their goal. We tried the everything and onion flavor crackers and flatbread.  They also have a plain version and cracked pepper.  The crackers are small squares and the flatbread is a long piece, essentially three squares in length. Plain they are just fine but also good with a dip.  Try cream cheese or hummus.  I haven't tried this yet but they would work as a good GF bread crumb if you crumbled them up. The one thing I miss are a cabinet full of snacks.  I was keen for Triscuits and Cheez-Its but obviously those are out now. So we went on the hunt for new varieties and as you can guess some are better than most.  I am really sensitive to a Gluten Free label is not always enough, when they are made in factories that process wheat I sometimes react. We tried Blue Diamonds Nut-Thins and they taste good.  Thin, crunchy and nutty and the cheese one is tasty (kids like them too).  Unfortunately for me every time I eat them I react a bit.  They are labeled as made in a factory that processes wheat - so I'm not sure if that is it or something else but I stopped eating them. Glutinos' crackers are a hit.  Think of a Ritz cracker.  Crispy, light and a few flavors.  My wife loves them. Hol-Grain was one I found recently.  Not a hit.  Dry, not very tasty.  I'd skip it.
