Schar

 I eat pretty healthy but I like the occasional chocolate. Growing up, one of my favorites was a Kit-Kat.

I was happy to find Schar Twin Bar which is basically a GF Kit-Kat with better chocolate.


My other favorite is their marble cake.

Mountain Mike's Pizza

Pizza. One of the things we GF folk miss is pizza, grabbing a slice, ordering a pie, delivery pizza at home. It has been two years since the GF Food Expo in San Diego where I met the owner of the two local  Mountain Mike's Pizza.   He told me a story about his daughter, who has to be GF, and how his restaurants offer safe GF Pizza.  I kept thinking I would stop in - its been two years.  Sam Golding owns the shop in Clairemont Mesa and I believe another in San Carlos. San Diego Safari Park

I must say that the San Diego Zoo  Safari Park  has some work to do.  Disney and Legoland do a great job with a GF list that you can pick up at guest services. We went to the Safari Park the other day.  I stopped at Guest Services and they said to check in the park at the Ranger Station.  At the Ranger Station they called another person on the phone and then informed me that they did not have a list - I should ask at each place. So I'm supposed to go into every place and ask?  If I'm hungry, and wait in line, and then find out they do not offer anything I'm supposed to just go to the next place and wait in line again? Now, we brought food (always prepared); but, I wanted to check out the GF options for potential visits in the future and for "research." Knott's Berry Farms

For those of that live in southern California we are extremely lucky to have Disney, Legoland, Sea World, The San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park all within close driving distance.  For visitors there are tons of places to visit. Most of these places do not offer great dining options for the Gluten Free traveler.  Disney has done a really good job, you can see my post  here on the blog.   Legoland is another place that offers a bunch of GF options and the staff always seems to be well trained, you can see my post  here.   The San Diego Zoo and Animal have much to be desired when we were there last so pack your own food. All of these years here we had never visited  Knott's Berry Farms.   It is only a few miles past Disneyland if you are coming from San Diego and two turns off the highway and you are pulling into the parking lot.
